# Drawing power vs your cash credit limit — what banks watch before renewal

> Your cash credit limit is the top amount the bank agreed. Drawing power is how much of that you can take this month from your stock and debtors after the bank’s rules. You can usually draw only up to the lower of the limit and drawing power, minus what you already owe. Keep monthly stock and debtor statements current before renewal.

## Sanctioned limit vs drawing power

| Idea | What it means |
|---|---|
| **Sanctioned limit** | The top amount on your sanction letter |
| **Drawing power** | How much you can take this month from eligible stock and debtors |
| **Outstanding / utilisation** | How much you have already drawn |

You can usually draw only up to the **lower of** the limit and current drawing power, minus what you already owe.

## How stock and debtors feed drawing power

1. Paid stock the bank accepts
2. Debtors within the age the bank allows
3. Minus the bank’s margin
4. Checks like insurance and how sales money comes in

Do not paste a generic formula into your pack unless that exact grid is on **your** sanction letter.

## What to tidy before renewal

1. Monthly stock and book-debt statements — current and matching your books
2. Ageing of debtors and creditors
3. Stock insurance naming the bank
4. CMA / projections that match the same story ([CMA preparer](/tools/cma-preparer/))
5. Re-read the drawing-power clause on your sanction letter

## Frequently asked questions

### What is drawing power on a CC account?

Drawing power is how much you can draw from stock and debtors after the bank’s margins and cuts. It can be lower than your sanctioned limit even if the limit stays the same.

### Is utilisation the same as drawing power?

No. Utilisation is how much you have already drawn against a named limit. Drawing power is the asset-based ceiling from stock and debtors. They are different numbers.

### Why do rating notes talk about high utilisation?

High use of the limit can mean less spare room for a busy month. It is one signal among many. It is not an automatic reason to raise the limit.

### What stock-statement age do banks care about?

Keep monthly stock statements on time. Drawings based on statements older than three months can be treated as irregular under the cited IRACP rules. Do not wait until renewal week.

### Does the old Tandon / MPBF formula still apply to my file?

Use the method named in your own sanction or renewal papers. Do not rebuild an old textbook table from a blog.
